History – background The illegal downloading of movies, TV series and computer games has increased significantly during recent years. My perspective is based upon the question; how can I visualise illegal downloading and the abuse of the BitTorrent technology available on the Internet? One thing I noticed in most of the downloaded movies and TV series was the level of violence that they contained. Autumn of 2007, I began searching through and edit hundreds of productions. These productions were all downloaded from the Internet, most commonly from www.thepiratebay.org The scenes from the downloaded material were categorised, divided into distinctive themes and edited together in several videos. Each video has its own pace, and is synchronised to music or self composed sound. My idea is to present fictional violence in a concentrated form by solely using scenes that portray realistic violence. Purpose The purpose is to visualise illegal downloading with a video- and installation based exhibition, as well as put an emphasis on the availability and argued over-saturation of violence. My work is a contribution to the ongoing debate regarding the impacts of illegal downloading and copyright law. ![]() |
